乔·派西饰演渴望踏足好莱坞的倒楣演员占美。在头脑有点短路的电器天才威廉帮助下，他们制造了假劫案，然后把劫案的录影带提供给新闻界，藉此增加暴光机会，占美甚至一度以为由他假扮的意警头子确有其人，为之沾沾自喜。不料西洋镜逐渐被警方和新闻界拆穿，有人在医院认出了威廉的真面目，于是他们被警方追捕至一家戏院。占美此时想轰轰烈烈地像真的强盗般被射杀，不料警方知道他枪中没有子弹而没有开火。
