Following the death of Sheung Wan’s abalone tycoon TONG YAN-KAI, his descendants are to launch a legal battle for an estimated fortune of HK$600 million. TONG CHI-YAT is on the side of his stepmother WONG SAU-KAM, who is against his siblings CHI-ON, CHI-FOON and CHI-YAN. The story goes back a few years, when KAI was still alive… KAI has got two wives, namely LING HAU and WONG SAU-KAM. To enjoy a holiday with KAM, KAI offers to pay top-up fees for a cruise to Dubai, in the hope that HAU, who is prone to seasickness, will choose not to join them. KAM has changed her mind and would like to go on a shopping trip to Europe. KAM and KAI bump into YAN when they are shopping around. KAI is shocked to discover that YAN has started dating (which is a breach of the family rule as children of the TONGS are not allowed to go out with members of the opposite sex until they get into university) while YAN and her friends have noticed that KAI and KAM have bought two sets of ski gear. In an attempt to approach KEI, YAN decides to take part in the cross-harbor swimming competition. Before she goes, HAU reminds KAI to put KAM’s name on the title deeds of two shop premises. KAM wants to have a site visit and needs KAI to look around the shop premises with her. The Charity Race Walking Cup is approaching, so ON offers to be the trainer for the whole family, during which he happens to discover the secret relationship between YAT and LAI. YAT gets a call from LAI and is shocked to hear that someone has got their intimate photos. The pair are being blackmailed for HK$700,000. ON invites SUM to join Tong Ki, which causes KAI and others to speculate about his relationship with the girl. ON’s family believe that he must be in love. Thinking that she is about to die, HAU, after waking from her coma, asks ON to help gather the family around every time she falls unconscious so that she can say a last farewell to everyone. KAI and FOON are told by their family doctor that KAM is found to have symptoms of depression. HAU loses consciousness again. ON manages to gather the family around so that HAU can say goodbye to them one by one. LEUNG offers to take FUNG to see the doctor but FUNG later goes missing along the way. SUM puts the blame on LEUNG and once again asks to break up with him. LEUNG is so unhappy that he decides to confide in HA. HA gives LEUNG a few words of consolation. Filled with warmth and thankfulness, LEUNG leans forward and kisses HA passionately. HAU wakes up from the coma and is out of danger. KAI brings KAM to see HAU. The two of them have soon become friends. TAK has heard from KAM about the current situation of the TONGS. TAK sides with KAM and promises to help her claim a half share of the family fortune. LEUNG holds a housewarming party at his new apartment, during which SUM is addressed by her colleagues as “Mrs. CHING”. SUM seems very happy to be identified as LEUNG’s other half. TAK reminds KAM that she will need HAU’s forgiveness and permission to be allowed back to the family. KAM hurries to the hospital and falls to her knees to beg for HAU’s forgiveness. HAU gets to whisper to FOON before she draws her last breath. FOON points out that HAU has granted KAM forgiveness in her last words.
