Nick Slaughter, an ex-RCMP and DEA agent who dropped out of society after being fired from his job, relocates to the Florida town of Key Mariah to start a detective service. In the process he meets local travel agent Sylvie Gerard and they form a strong partnership, and quite the detective team. However, the local police squad never makes it easy so they often require help from their friends: Ian, Spider (owners of the Tropical Heat Bar at different times), and local police mortician Rollie. The town of Key Mariah will never be the same thanks to Nick Slaughter and Company.

3 men want to get the license for building a casino on Key Mariah.One of them is the Mafioso Bruno Gateaux. But also the businessman Winston Drake who works with slush funds. Sylvie falls in love with Drake and wants to leave Nick in order to work for Drake in the casino. But Drake puts her in danger. At their dinner for two, someone shoots at them and they can hardly rescue themselves. Sylvie doesn't realize that Drake had staged the attack and she also doesn't know that there is a bomb in the case with money she takes to Nick as indemnity for losing his partner.
