"Ağıt" aka (Elegy, Lament) is part of the 1971 trilogy, the other parts being Acı (Pain) and Umutsuzlar (The Hopeless Ones). The story takes place in the mountains around Ürgüp/Kapadokya. The last of the bandits and smugglers, the famous Çobanoğlu (Yılmaz Güney) hides in the mountains with his gang. He is hunted by the gendarme and by the villagers as well who want to get rid of him and live in peace.
Coban and his four comrades are smugglers who live in the bleak, inaccesable mountains. They are hard, pitiless men like the county they live in, whose daily commerce is in greed, danger, betrayal and murder.
