Nashi is an increasingly popular political youth organization in Russia with direct ties to the Kremlin. Officially, its goal is to support the current political system by creating a future elite among the brightest and most loyal Russian teenagers. But the organization also works to prevent the political opposition from spreading their views among young people.
After joining Nashi at the age of 15, Masha Drokova moves to the very top of the organization at 16. When she becomes acquainted with a group of liberal journalists, she started to have doubts. When one of the journalists is brutally beaten by "unknown perpetrators," she has a genuine change of heart and decides to take a stand.
From this girl’s perspective, this documentary shows the complicated modern Russia full of contrasts.
Masha Drokova joins Nashi, a Russian ultra nationalist youth group, at the age of 16 and rapidly ascends its ranks, famously garnering a medal and the opportunity to kiss Vladimir Putin. The film details her growing disillusion with the group's leaders and her falling in with the anti-Putin opposition, especially a journalist and blogger named Oleg Kashin, who gets brutally attacked.
